Overview:
We're looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented Proofreader to help the editorial team make sure our research goes out error-free. This position is located in our Baltimore office and will report to the Executive Editor. Responsibilities:

  • Scrutinize investment newsletters and e-letters for errors in spelling, grammar, word choice, style, and formatting, reviewing edited copy at multiple stages of the production process to ensure that it's ready for publication.
  • Fact-check editorial content, including articles and data.
  • Assist our layout team with the production process to spot errors or inconsistencies in the formatting of e-mails, web pages, and PDFs.
  • Format Excel spreadsheets for publication.
  • Perform periodic side tasks associated with the production process, which might include formatting Excel spreadsheets for publication, data entry, or creating a WordPress post from a Word document.
Qualifications:
  • Strong grammar skills, a close eye for detail, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to juggle and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team of proofreaders.
  • Ability to adapt to company-specific tasks and workflow and become an expert on company-specific style preferences.
  • Ability to learn the basics of different software and web tools as needed.
  • Basic math skills (including calculating percentage changes).
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
  • Visual acuity for reading and using the computer.
  • Ability to hear.
  • Ability to freely move about the office.
  • Ability to use the phone/computer/keyboard/mouse/general office equipment for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to communicate with others in order to exchange information.
  • Fluency in the English language.

Preferred:
  • A four-year degree in English or journalism.
  • Professional proofreading experience.
  • Familiarity with AP style.
  • A basic knowledge of the stock market.
